How to Resize Videos in Final Cut Pro

Written by Published in Uncategorized

Resizing vertical videos to horizontal videos and vice-versa are needed to meet the requirements of social media sites like Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn and other digital platforms.

Original video footage needs resizing because often, what you have won’t do for the dimensions needed for your online posts and shares.

Our YouTube guy, Reggie, shows you four of the easiest ways to resize videos while editing in Final Cut Pro.

Using the Viewer

  1. Select and drop your clip on your timeline.
  2. Right-click the Viewer.
  3. Then, hit Transform.
  4. Drag the handle of each blue corner of the frame. Btw, doing so won’t affect the aspect ratio of your video.
  5. Adjust to make your frame bigger or smaller.
  6. If you want to stretch your frame, simply drag the blue handles in the middle of your frame.
  7. Done!

Using Keyboard Shortcuts

  1. Select your clip on your timeline.
  2. Hit shift T.
  3. Drag the handle of each blue corner of the frame.
  4. Adjust to make your frame bigger or smaller.
  5. If you want to stretch your frame, simply drag the blue handles in the middle of your frame.
  6. Click the “scan” button to view the entire frame.
  7. Done!

Using a Button

  1. Select your clip on your timeline.
  2. Click the “square with the four points” icon at the bottom left-hand corner of your Viewer.
  3. Drag the handle of each blue corner of the frame.
  4. Adjust to make your frame bigger or smaller.
  5. Done!

Using the Inspector

  1. Select your clip on your timeline.
  2. Go to your Video Inspector on the top-right corner of your Viewer.
  3. Then hit “Transform” then “Scale”.
  4. Adjust the slider to the preferred image size.
  5. Done!
