How to Add a Watermark in Final Cut Pro

A watermark is an identifying overlay of a brand’s logo or a text to prevent copyright infringement. In short, it prevents anyone from ripping off taglines, logos, images and videos.

It’s essential to protect your intellectual property by using watermarks in your videos.

Reggie, our YouTube guy, shows three methods on how to add watermarks in Final Cut Pro.

Add a title watermark

  1. Use a basic title.
  2. Drag the title all the way to your timeline.
  3. Drag it all the way to your clips.
  4. Change by double clicking the title.
  5. Adjust the size of the title.
  6. Use the tilt effect on the title.
  7. Click on Blend mode. 
  8. Customize opacity.
  9. All done!

Add a transparent image

  1. Pick a logo.
  2. Drag the logo all the way to your timeline.
  3. Drag it all the way to your clips.
  4. Adjust the logo’s size.
  5. Move the logo to your preferred position in your clip.
  6. Adjust the opacity of your logo.
  7. That’s it!

Add an image with a background

  1. Choose your image.
  2. Drag your image all the way to your timeline.
  3. Drag it all the way to your clips.
  4. Change the Blend mode to Screen.
  5. Right-click the image, click Transform and adjust the image to your liking.
  6. Move the image to your preferred position in your clip.
  7. Customize the opacity of your image.
  8. That’s it!

Bonus tip!

Here’s how to change a black image with a white background

  1. Choose your image.
  2. Drag your image all the way to your timeline.
  3. Drag it all the way to your clips.
  4. Change the Blend mode to Multiply.
  5. Right-click the image, click Transform and adjust the image to your liking.
  6. Move the image to your preferred position in your clip.
  7. Customize the opacity of your image.
  8. That’s it!
